Overview:

Attendees will learn how to plan to fully cover an unexpected absence and will begin creating their own individual organization succession plan. We buy life insurance to assure that our families can continue to function in the event that the breadwinner dies. We buy automobile insurance, homeowners insurance; we have health insurance; our savings accounts are covered by Federal Deposit Insurance.

What insurance do we have to keep our organizations functioning in the event that the Executive Director is unexpectedly unable to function for a matter of months? If the ED's aging parent suddenly requires his/her presence out of state for an indeterminate period? If an illness or accident requires lengthy hospitalization?

Do you or your organization really know all the activities that rely on you, your knowledge and your experience? If there is no clear plan in place for the unexpected; if there is no clear authority for temporary leadership how is your organization going to function if you are totally unavailable for a month or longer?

An Emergency Succession Plan is basic risk management. It is also best practices. And it is something that many foundations are beginning to require before approving a grant. This workshop will provide you with the tools and guidelines to create an emergency succession plan for your agency.

Who should attend: Executive Directors and senior executives who have significant responsibilities within a nonprofit organization

Presenters: Toni Smith, Mike Thompson and Joe Ross of Executive Service Corps

ESC provides low cost consulting services to nonprofits through a cadre of retired executives who bring their career experience along with specific training in nonprofit issues.
